2nd Day of Christmas Trivia

2nd Day of Christmas Trivia:

In 1670, the choirmaster at Cologne Cathedral in Germany handed out white sugar sticks to quiet the children during the long Christmas nativity services. In honor of the occasion, he had the candies bent into shepherds’ crooks, representing the shepherds who were the first to worship the newborn Christ.

It wasn’t until the early 1900s that candy canes adopted the red and white stripes and peppermint flavors that we know to be the norm today. The body of the cane is white, representing the life that is pure. The broad red stripe is symbolic of the Lord’s sacrifice for man.
