4th Day of Christmas Trivia:
Traditional colors of the Advent Wreath are purple and pink. However, it's interesting that in Germany (where the modern Advent Wreath originated in the 1800s) they primarily use red candles.
The idea of the Advent Wreath is to light a candle in conjunction with worship services or personal and family devotions on the four Sundays leading up to Christmas. This ceremony signifies the anticipation of Christmas and the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Generally, three candles are purple and one is rose or pink. The candles represent hope, peace, joy and love. Purple and pink are used to coincide with the color of garments worn by religious leaders during the season of Advent. The wreath is made of evergreens and is circular, with no beginning and no end, representing eternal life provided to us by Jesus' sacrifice.
