At the Beach in Mallorca, Spain

This past weekend we took a trip with my parents to the island of Mallorca (Majorca), Spain along the Mediterranean Sea. It was beautiful – I loved the color of the water! We only got 1.5 days of sun during our 4 day trip - but we spent that time on the beach and had a lot of fun. Ryne loved the sandy beach! The water was too cold to really get in though. Even the “heated” indoor pool at the hotel was too cold! The rest of the time it was cold and rainy. So, we spent a lot of time on the balcony of the hotel reading, chatting and people-watching. We weren’t sure we’d ever make it to our hotel at first though…

We left Paris early on Friday morning and took the train to the airport – a first for us. It was rush hour so it was crazy busy and the train was crammed. We finally got to the airport and waited in a super long check-in line for our bags. They were so slow! We actually thought we might miss our flight. We made it through and got to our gate in plenty of time. They even let us use the first class security line because of the baby. We flew through Madrid and when we arrived in Mallorca, 3 of our 4 checked bags (including the stroller) were lost! Go figure – just our luck! My Dad and I had both done research online and several reviews said it was easy to just take a public bus to our hotel. Well, easy was not the case at all. Luckily there was a guy there who spoke English and said he would help us. He said he didn’t know exactly which stop our hotel was, but could tell us the general area where it was. We had to transfer buses (thank goodness for our little helper) and there was a mom and her son sitting next to us who overheard us mention our hotel name and said they were staying there as well and she would show us. Whew! 9 miles and 1 hour later we finally arrived at our hotel. Needless to say, we decided to just take a taxi (even without a car seat) for the return trip to the airport on Monday!

Saturday morning was not looking good: Pehr and I only got a total of 4 hours of sleep because Ryne must’ve been “too excited to sleep” (like that Disneyland commercial); we still didn’t have all of our stuff and hadn’t even heard from the airline yet; and it was cold and rainy. Well, around Noon things took a change for the better and the sun started to shine and we finally got our stuff - only 24 hours late. The stroller was all messed up though! It still works (barely) – the wheels were kinda bent and it was also torn. If I thought it was a ghetto stroller before (compared to all of the fancy Parisian poussettes), it surely is now! But it didn’t matter anymore…the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day! We took advantage and spent the next day and a half at the beach. YAY!

Our return trip was pretty uneventful. We took a taxi to the airport and arrived in plenty of time! However, our flight through Barcelona was delayed and we thought we might not make our connection. Luckily we got to our plane and they said they were waiting for us, so that was nice! Then we weren’t sure our bags would make it…but, they did! And, hey, the nice thing was that they were the first bags off the plane! We took the train from the airport back to our apartment and lucked out and caught an express train. Well, at the time we didn’t think it was so lucky when it was zooming through every stop and we weren’t sure it would even stop at the station that we needed to get off at! But, it did and we made it home safe and sound!

Sounds like you had the weather like we have been having here. One day, it's 50 and then it's 80-90. Now today, it's barely 60 again and pouring!! It's crazy! Oh well, at least it's not snowing anymore. I'm glad you got your bags and the trip home was better. That place looks beautiful!
